Cozmel Cattery puts great emphasis on showing.  It is not only educational for the owner and the visitors but it is a lot of FUN for everyone involved.  We encourage all the owners of our kittens to show. We offer a wonderful incentive for them to show.  Please visit our Cash Rebate page to find out more.  Showing a cat is not difficult but it can be confusing for the first five minutes you are there.  Below I have given you an overview of what is to be expected at a cat show.  We welcome any questions you have and will do our best to help you if you decide to show.

A Cat show typically is over the course of two days on a weekend.  There is normally 5 to 7 judging rings per day. Each Ring is presided over by a different judge. The cat is judged in every ring based on the standard for the breed.

The cats are divided for Judging into 4 major classes:

                                               Judging Classes
Kittens (Pedigreed kittens 4 to 8 months old)
Championship (pedigreed cats over 8 months old and unaltered)
Alters (Pedigreed cats over 8 months old and spayed or neutered)
Household Pets (which must be spayed or neutered by 8 months of age)

These divisions are also separated into All-Breed and Specialty.  In an All-Breed ring, the judge will examine the shorthaired and longhaired cats together, from Persians to Sphynx.  In the Specialty ring the judge will only examine the shorthaired cats against the shorthaired cats and the longhaired cats against the longhaired cats.

The divisions compete against other cats in the same division but not outside of their division. Each cat is judged based on breed and color. Each breed is judged together before moving on to another breed.  There are 2 classes of ribbons awarded in every ring.  The classes are  best of color and best of division. There is First, Second, and Third place ribbons.  The cat will receive points based on the ribbon received.

After all the cats in a division have been judged, the Judge will call the final for that ring.  In the judges opinion, he/she will give ribbons out to the top 10 cats at the show in that division.  These ribbons are what you get to keep as a trophy.

For every ribbon you receive inside the judging ring and the ribbons your receive in a final add up to points.  You will receive titles for your cat when they reach certain point milestones.
